WARD 1

Hello, my name is Beverly Branch, and I would like to take this time to introduce myself to the community and Ward 1. I have been a resident of Ward 1 since 2005. I have three children, two who attend school in the community, one at Flintstone Elementary and another at Oxon Hill High.

Since I've took residency here, I've assisted the community by volunteering my services wherever I could and visiting the Town Hall to see how I could be of any assistance to the town. I've met with previous Mayors to provide assistance with a welcome package for new residents, and inquired about issues surrounding academic and recreational activities for the youth of Forest Heights, to include tutorial and computer services for our children in the town as well as activities and volunteer work for them.

Although I'm new to the town, in the short time I've been here, I've showed interest in helping our community and our children. I have volunteered my services at Flintstone since my son enrolled in September 2005. I am the present PTA President at Flintstone Elementary School since October 2006. Since I've taking on that position, I've created a cheerleading team of 40 girls that my 17year old daughter and myself coach, I've created a basketball team of 21 boys and girls and have assigned volunteer teachers and parents to coach. I have held PTA community based functions at the school such as a Fall Festival, Thanksgiving Basket Raffle, Student of the Month, Holiday Party and a Basketball game for the children in Ward 1 and our community.

I feel with all that is and has gone on in our town, we need someone new and nonbiased on the board, someone who's willing to learn and readily available and committed to our town, the board, our community and our children. As a concerned resident and parent, I would like the chance to be your Council member for Ward 1 to represent our town and our families and to be able to move forward on one accord and embrace new beginnings, higher heights and a fresh start.
