RESOLUTION 014-07

ESTABLISH A DATE FOR SUBMITTING NOMINATIONS FOR MAYOR

AND WARD III COUNCIL MEMBER FOR THE MAY 9, 2007 TOWN ELECTION

INTRODUCED BY:

ENACTED: April 18, 2007

WHEREAS, Charter Amendment 21 passed on March 9, 2007, and which becomes effective on April 28, 2007, creates a vacancy in the office of mayor; and

WHEREAS, Charter Amendment 25 creates a vacancy in a Ward III Council seat; and

WHEREAS, Charter amendments 21, 23, and 25 require a special election to be held on May 9, 2007 to fill vacant seats of Mayor and Ward III Council Member; and

WHEREAS, nominations are required to place the names of persons desiring to be elected Mayor or Council Member on the election ballot; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Council establishes close of business on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 as the cutoff date for filing nominations for Mayor and Ward III Council Member for the May 9, 2007 election;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Clerk shall publish a special edition of the Forest Heights News no later than Friday, April 20, 2007 announcing the forgoing filing date;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Clerk shall publish a special edition of the Forest Heights News as soon as possible after the nominations have been filed, containing the names of the qualified nominated candidates and their statements;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution to shall be effective immediately.
